You are bidding on a very beautiful, medium-sized plant which, given its size, will soon be ready to be tied up to hang. Extremely rare to find in this size!
A unique species!
The plants hang from their roots in the trees like Christmas baubles and grow vertically downwards. At first, one might think it’s an ‘accident’ when seeing plants hanging from the trees like this. In fact, however, this is a highly sophisticated adaptation. Near the base of the root there are holes through which dew and rainwater, collected by the long root tendril, is channelled directly into the caudex. There is even provision for an overflow, to ensure the plants do not become too heavy!
Seeds of this species germinate on the branches and, as young plants, initially grow like typical epiphytic Myrmecodia.
The roots anchor themselves in the bark and, in older plants, grow ever longer, so that the plants eventually detach from the wood and hang freely.
