A very interesting species from Irian Jaya. The plants appear to be adapted to dry periods and the caudex shrinks extremely in dry conditions, making the plant appear almost dead.
The unripe berries are orange in colour for a long time and only turn red when fully ripe.The leaves are relatively large, leathery and always drooping. The inflorescences are extremely compact and the caudex is rather small.
