Product information "Myrmecodia spec. Extremely Elongated (Nduga, Irian Jaya)"
The present material represents an as yet undescribed species of Myrmecodia from Nduga Regency, situated south of the Central Highlands in the Indonesian part of New Guinea (Papua Province, formerly Irian Jaya).
The plants are characterized by an exceptionally elongated growth habit. The caudex reaches only approximately 5 cm in diameter and is remarkably slender in relation to the overall length of the plant. Individuals invariably grow pendulously and are attached to tree branches by only a few stout roots.
The caudex bears only a few spines, which are usually simple and unbranched. The equally elongated shoot is armed in the fertile region with delicate, branched spines arranged circumferentially around the alveoli. The flowers are white.
