Nepenthes albomarginata (Malaysia, red)
Product information "Nepenthes albomarginata (Malaysia, red)"
A red form of the well known Nepenthes albomarginata from Penang (Malaysia). Nepenthes albomarginata occurs in Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, where it is found in the lowlands. "Albomarginata" translates to "white-margined" and refers to the prominent fringe of fine, white hairs under the peristome. This serves to specialize in their prey: termites. The white trichomes serve as food for the termites, but these fall into the pitchers during harvesting.
The pitchers of N. albomarginata are highly variable in their coloration. Red, green, violet, black-grey and orange pitchers are known. The bottom pitchers are tubular, the high pitchers are funnel shaped.
Very interesting smaller species for a lowland terrarium.
